Prior to the recent rally is an example where we highlighted the extreme 2-week decline seen on the S&P 500.
Backtesting this type of a decline showed that since 1978, for most of the instances it occurred near major market lows.
Except for the signal during the 2001 Dot Com bubble, which saw some more upside immediately followed by a major top.
We also highlighted the extreme VIX spike (S&P 500 volatility index) that we got during the recent panic sell-off.
High VIX readings are a sign of extreme market fear and have often occurred either at the lows or very close to the lows (like during the 2008 Financial Crisis).
To further quantify the significant market panic, we also shared the Panic/Euphoria model with our Founding Members.
This model showed that April’s extreme panic reading consistently showed solid returns looking out 2 - 12 months, with the 6 month timeframe seeing a 100% success rate and an average return of 18.81% (or a median return of 15.32%).
In this case, the 6 month time frame would be October 2025.
Part of our everyday Discord routine with our Founding Members also involves tracking certain charts on a daily basis to stay on top of the markets.
For example, every morning we look at the Smart Money/Dumb Money Confidence indicator to assess the positioning of these 2 types of investors.

Interestingly, Mercury Retrograde ended on April 7th (Venus Retrograde ended on April 13th) and Trump put in place the 90-day tariff negotiation window on April 9th, right after the Mercury Retrograde ended and Venus Retrograde was nearing an end.
Now, one can argue that Trump never fully took off the tariffs, but for us it’s about finding the high probability inflection points in the market to help our members Make Money - our primary goal at Cycles Edge.
